BIR Officials Share Latest Tax and Digitalization Updates at TMAP April General Membership Meeting

 

The Tax Management Association of the Philippines (TMAP) successfully conducted its General Membership Meeting on April 30, 2026, bringing together members for an insightful discussion on recent tax developments and the Bureau of Internal Revenue’s (BIR) ongoing modernization efforts.

 

The meeting featured esteemed speakers from the BIR who provided valuable updates on key regulations and initiatives shaping the current tax landscape. Atty. Larry M. Barcelo discussed recent Revenue Memorandum Circulars (RMCs), focusing on the tax treatment of cross-border services and the application of the ordinary and necessary expense rule for business deductions. His presentation offered practical guidance to tax professionals and businesses navigating evolving compliance requirements.

 

Meanwhile, Ms. Eunisa R. Castillo shared updates on the BIR’s Digital Transformation Project, highlighting the agency’s efforts to modernize tax administration, enhance digital services, and improve the overall taxpayer experience. She also discussed ongoing policy reforms designed to increase efficiency, strengthen compliance, and support the government’s broader digitalization agenda.

 

The session provided TMAP members with a deeper understanding of recent regulatory developments and the direction of the BIR’s modernization initiatives. Participants gained valuable insights into emerging compliance considerations, technology-driven reforms, and their potential impact on taxpayers and tax practitioners.
